A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your device. It has information in it that allows us to remember something as you visit pages on the site for example whether or not you are logged in. In this document well explain why we set cookies, what information they contain and what choices you have as a user of this site.
Weve divided this into sections so that you can easily find what youre looking for:
- Essential Cookies
- Non Essential Cookies
- Handle cookies by adjusting your Browser Settings
Members of the Early Years Resource Factory use a login in order to gain access to all materials. In order to keep track of the fact that you are logged in, we set a session cookie to keep track of your browser session so we can verify you are logged in as you make your way through the website. Session cookies do not contain any personal information, only a randomly generated code that our server correlates with your login to verify you are logged in.
We use a site plugin called AddThis which sets two cookies, called _atuvc and _atuvs. AddThis is a plugin to make it easy for you to share our pages with various social media.
We also use Google Analytics on our site which sets tracking cookies to be able to collect anonymous data about our users visits. This allows us to measure traffic and patterns of pages visited.
Youll recognise Google Analytics cookies as follows:
_ga set for 2 years. Assigns a randomly generated number to identify each unique visitor throughout their visit on our site. Provides visitor, session and campaign data.
_gid set for 24 hours. Used to uniquely identify visitors.
_gat set for 10 minutes Used to throttle the request rate, limiting the collection of data on high traffic sites.
Browser Settings and Cookies
Generally speaking, your web browser will enable you to take more control over which cookies are set on your computer and how they are handled. For instance, you can minimise the data collected about your browsing habits by setting your browser to delete cookies whenever you close a page. There are also many browser plugins to help you be aware of which cookies are being set and give you control to pick and choose which ones you allow and which you delete.
